Montessori Teachers are referred to as “Directresses” as their function in a classroom is to observe and guide instead of instruct. The goal is to allow space for children to make their own creative choices in their learning, and simultaneously develop self-confidence and independent thinking skills that support social-emotional developments.

MONTESSORI MATERIALS
Contrary to traditional child care where children are offered toys and minimal structure in the curriculum, the Montessori method allows children to creatively choose work materials that start from simple to complex. Each material is meticulously crafted to promote precision in control and appreciation of aesthetics.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Parents as primary educators lay foundations for their children’s emotional, physical and cognitive developments. The decision on how children are nurtured and educated has a great impact on their later interactions with the world around them.
To facilitate parents’ knowledge about how their children learn best, we encourage active parental involvement in activities such as festive celebrations, school events, and community meetings. This does not only keep parents updated on their children’s endeavours and achievements, but also creates a connection between home and school that reinforces their learning experiences.
Tips To Practice Montessori At Home
1.
Maintain order
- This can be done by providing a clean and organised environment, and designating child-friendly areas to allow easy access to things without help.
2.
Perform independently
- Entrust your children to do things on their own. Use encouragement and not rewards to praise a positive behaviour
3.
Be a good example
- It is no surprise that children mirror their parents’ behaviours. Subtly make them aware of their mistakes and model how it should be done.
4.
Connect with nature
- We cannot satisfy children’s innate curiosity through screens. Cultivate their sensory experiences by taking them outdoors.
